First of all as a kid, growing up in a Jewish family in Poland, he was effected greatly by the Second World War. His pregnant mother was sent and killed in a concentration camp, his sister had to flee and he didn't hear from her in years, his father disappeared for years before showing up again and getting remarried, he himself was lucky several times by fleeing at the right moments, managed to hide while getting shot at etc. He talked about his memories of the war so literal. He used a lot of his memories to make the great movies he made, such as The Pianist. It gives me chills just thinking about the images that must be buried in his memories.
As the war ended, he grew a liking to film, such as acting and directing and it was really tough for him, because nobody accepted his work. Eventually he got recognized and became a huge sensation all over the world. He got huge in America after directing Rosemarie's Baby which is nowadays a classic. He then made a few others including The Fearless Vampire Killers, and while making that he met Sharon Tate.
Sharon Tate was an amazing and gorgeous actress, sex symbol and role model in the 60's. In my opinion, she is probably the most beautiful woman who ever lived. Sharon and Roman fell deeply in love while working together. Not long after, they got married and shortly after that she was pregnant. Everything was perfect and they were excited to start their life together until one night in 1969 when Roman Polanski's worst nightmare came true. He was in London working on a movie, while his 9 month pregnant wife was at home in California with a couple of friends. Her due date was two weeks away that night and I can only imagine her excitement about becoming a mother, before The Manson Family broke into her home and brutally murdered, her and her baby, and all her friends that were in the house with her. Roman Polanski once said that his time with Sharone Tate was the best time of his life and that the only tears that ever really mattered were the ones he shed for his wife and unborn son, and that his biggest regret was not being there with her while it happened. Sharon Tate only lived to be 26 years old. May she forever rest in peace.
For those who do not know, the Manson Family was some sort of "cult" that was created by Charles Manson, a musician and obviously an insane psycho. He convinced young people, mostly girls, that he was God, and brainwashed these people by using drugs and convincing words. In the summer of 69, he convinced his followers to kill several different people and make the world think it was black people who were the murders so the whites would start killing the black. Honestly, how sick can I person become? Some of his followers are dead now but he is still alive and a man like him deserves nothing but the absolute worst for what he did to all those innocent people, including Sharon Tate herself.
These killers ended up in jail eventually and Roman's life went on, and with his unfortunate luck, more traumatising things happened to him. He was arrested and spent time in jail for having sexual intercourse with a minor, and of course that exploded in the media and all of sudden the stories made him worse than his actions actually were. He was deported from the US, and then years later arrested once again in Switzerland, and even had to be on house arrest over there. Like I said, thank God that I am me, and not him. But even through his sorrow and pain, he got good things to. He remarried and had two children with the actress Emmanuelle Seigner, and for being in his 80's, he is healthy and in good shape. I admire those like Mr. Polanski, those who go through a lot, because I believe that they are the strongest people, and can fight through anything. So I salute him! :)
