One goodbye, one hello

First of all I'd like to apologise greatly for my lack of blogging lately. I've been busy with my studies and some other things. But I do have some good news for me... and some not so good news.

The good news is that Bea and I got a new roommate. A typical Australian surfer dude called Matt. He arrived yesterday with his brother and nephew to move in his stuff. We then got to know him by going for dinner at a really cheap Thai place right outside our apartment and then we spent a few hours on the balcony drinking beer, wine and just chilling. So far he seems really nice and there are no signs of there being any problems between any of us which is important. Not so good news is that our old roommate Kim is leaving us tomorrow :( She is going back to Germany and even though we've only lived together for like 5 weeks, it feels like forever because of all the things we've managed to do together and I am going to miss her. Our little cleaning lady and drunken grown up <3 It still feels like it was only yesterday when I met her on the streets all lost looking for a place to live and hardly knowing any English. We talked about that yesterday how much her English has improved since we moved in together. Aw, it's a bit sad saying goodbye to her. But I don't doubt that we will at least stay in touch for a little while. Tomorrow morning we are getting up with her at 7am to say goodbye to her. It isn't going to be the happiest morning since I got here, thats for sure <3

Questions about Australia

Anonymous said...
How do you support yourself and do you see a lot of kangaroos?
I got money from CSN before I got here, and every term I will be getting a new amount of money. Unfortunantly the money I get will most likely not last for the term so I am looking for a job right now. Haha I see kangaroos almost everyday. They like hanging out at campus :)

how are the parties in australia? do you miss sweden?
Well I've been partying pretty much since I got here which is fun and every time is an adventure. I already feel like I have so many stories to tell from nights out here.
I don't miss Sweden the country but I do miss my friends a lot but we stay in touch which is good.

What is the best thing about australia and the worst thing?
The best thing... hmmm.... I don't think that I can only choose one. There are so many good things. I love the fact that the beach is so close and that the weather is almost always perfect. Everyone heres really friendly and social which I also really like, not at all like in Sweden where people intend to stick with their clicks. The worst thing is probably that it is really expensive here and that for some reason my skin is a lot worse here :(

Tell me about your studies?
Well I am doing a bachelor in Creative Writing which is really fun. I have an assessment due on Friday so I am working on that. Next week most of the assessments are due so I have a busy week in front of me. Some things are more enjoyable than others. Right now it is a lot about academic writing which isn't my thing at all. I went into creative writing to skip the academic writing but I guess its just to do it and get it over with. In my introduction to creative writing class we are working on short stories which is really fun and I'm starting to get somewhere with my story which feels good.

where/how do you live?
I live in Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast. In an apartment with my friend from Kenya, Bea and a german woman called Kim. Kim is however moving back to Germany next week :( so she will be replaced by an Australian boy called Matt. Our apartment is perfect! It is right next to the bus stop, in the middle of town where all the restaurants and stores are, literally 30 seconds from the beach and a two minute walk from the best nightclub here. It can't get any better than that!

Saturday madness

Yesterday was a pretty slow day on my part. I pretty much stayed home the entire half of the day but then Kim and i went for a long walk along the water looking at all the stores and finding restaurants around town that we can go to in the future. We then did some grocery shopping at Coles, went home and I made dinner, salmon and pasta. Yum, yum! Julie then invited me over to her place so I took Kim with me and when we got there saskia, daria and Julianne were there, we drank goon and played games. Then we went to a house party and it was out of control! So many people and really loud music. Some neighbours complained and the police showed up. They just gave the people who owned the place a warning and my friends and I left then but on our way out I started talking to the police and they were really nice so that was fun haha we then went to helm and ended the night there but we weren't there for that long. It was a good night though!

Photos and fun

Last night Kim and I went to eat sushi. Three dollar sushi! Booyaaaah!! Then we got dressed up and took a bunch of photos all over the harbour. After that we went home, started drinking and went to helm. I had heaps of fun. We were drinking and dancing all night. We met a couple of people there and the four of us went to the beach at like 4am haha. I got into a very heavy conversation with one guy about the meaning of movies hahah and then Kim and I went home. I woke up this morning from a knock on my door, still dressed in my party clothes with make up all over my face. It was the window cleaner and it took me like five minutes to understand what he was talking about haha. He decided to come tomorrow instead. Today is Friday woohoo!! Weekend! Gonna be fun😃😃

Winter is coming... or not

The past few days have been chilly. If it were Sweden it would still have been a really hot summer day, but here in Australia, not so much. It has still been warm enough to wear summer dresses during the day but I've been in need of a jumper during night. Especially when sitting on the balcony, seven floors up, the wind is strong up there. But today is really, really hot. Like it was my first couple of weeks here. I am wearing a T-shirt and short shorts and I am still sweating. The last day it was this hot was when we were in Noosa on Friday last week, and ever since then it has been really cold.

Today Bea's sister, Vicky is coming to visit for the weekend which will be fun. Bea is so excited so thats really good. I won't be spending all weekend with them obviously because they want some time together alone I'd assume but I will join them for a fancy dinner some day out this weekend. Today I've slept a lot though, I have been so tired all day. I'm not sure why but when I got up the last time I cleaned our room so it will be clean for Bea's sisters stay. I'll be lending her my bed too for the weekend so I'll be crashing on the couch but our couch feels like clouds so I am more than happy to do so. Right at this moment I am sitting in the library waiting for my final class of the week to start, then tonight I am going to study which I will be doing most of the weekend together with Daria. So not as fun, but necessary indeed :)

By the way, is there something specific anyone would like me to write about? Something about Australia, maybe? Just let me know by commenting below :)

My courses

I've had class now for a couple of weeks and I am getting a hold of the classes, which I like, which I don't like and so forth. To be a full time student you need to have three classes, I have four, so that is a lot but I try to get on as well as I can and just do my best. For those who don't know, I study bachelor of creative writing so now in my first term of my first year my courses are Communication and Thought, Introduction to Creative Writing, Introduction to Creative Industries and Media and Communication Industries. I know what is expected of me from each class and I try keeping up as well as I possibly can, some classes better than others but that's because I naturally enjoy certain courses more.
Communication and Thought- this is a mandatory course for all first semester students, not only the creative writers. I personally think that it is lame and has nothing to do with my education. And the assignment given to us doesn't really make sense to me either.
Introduction to Creative Writing- this class is really fun. We are working on short stories and I feel like I am good at what we do. I understand the work and more importantly, I enjoy it
Introduction to Creative Industries- at first I felt completely lost with this class but I've really gotten a hang of it lately and it turns out to be pretty fun. My tutorials are fun and I learn about new things in this class so that's good.
Media and Communication Industries- this class is really interesting. It is all about film and tv which is something that I know a lot about and could see myself working with in the future so that I really enjoy :)

The Helm

Last night was craaaaazy! My roommates and I bought heaps of wine and drank like all afternoon and around 12 when we felt a little tipsy we decided to go to The Helm which is a nightclub thirty seconds from our apartment that is very popular around university students. I met some of my friends there such as Julie and her German buddies. We danced and drank all night, met some new people and just had a generally awesome night. When the club closed at 3am, Bea and I found ourselves going to an afterparty at the beach, there we met more people. I went night swimming again with some and during that the waves managed to rip my dress and make me lose my earring :( but it was totally worth it. We came home at like seven in the morning and fell asleep instantly. We woke up a couple of hours later and headed to Subway at once. When we came home I took a dip in the pool, then watched The Lion King, again! I can't stop loving that movie. How isn't that everyone's favourite? Now Bea is asleep and Kim is just relaxing, watching TV while I am sitting by the beach. It really is a lovely night :)

Life is good

Right now I am in my bikini laying on the beach. It is the first time I'm really tanning since I got here. The sun is so strong here that I am going to try to not do that too often. But it's such a beautiful day I couldn't resist :) this morning a guy from Singapore had a birthday BBQ so my German crew and I decided to go. So much food for such an early day haha but it was good. Then Timothy and I went crazy in the water. Because of the storm last night the waves today are insane. So big! There were two right after each other that must have been at least four meters high and they kept Timothy and I under water for a long time so we got back up after that. But man I love this! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I actually live here❤️ Life is good!

Noosa

Today has been a really long day! Bea and I woke up early, got ready and headed off to sunshine plaza to look for a job. I felt like we got a lot of positive answers today which was good. Then we met up with Kim, Julie, Helena, daria, Timothy, Sebastian and Oxana to take a one hour bus ride to Noosa. There was a surf competition when we got there so we watched that. Noosa is honestly beautiful! Wow! And apparently all surfers dream place. We then ate dinner at a steak and burger place, bought a lot of wine and cider, sat on the beach and got drunk. It was a lot of fun actually. We got home a while ago and we just ate some noodles. It is a crazy storm outside now haha but it still hot. Love it actually. Been a while since i saw rain haha.

Weekend

My weekend starts now. Yay! No class on Fridays. I've had a long day today. Started at eight in the morning and had class until ten. At 10.30 Daria met me in the library and we did a test together that needed to be done for Communication and Thought. Then I went home and fell asleep instantly for about two hours, got up and went back to uni for my last class. I am really starting to get a hang of everything now. I'm really enjoying my creative writing class, we are writing short stories now and I feel like I really understand what they mean and it really interests me the things I get to learn.

I am getting used to the weather here now. This morning it was 28 degrees celsius and I am was freezing so I had to wear a sweater haha. And then I hear from my friends in Sweden that they have 12 degrees and everyone is walking around in shorts and T-shirts. Crazy. But I love that it is so hot here though. Perfect weather for me :) I am made for this climate. Right now I am sitting on the beach where I have good Wifi and an older man is talking to us about the first mobile phone ever haha. Funny man! Interesting story though :)
Mooloolaba <3 Beautiful place.

Fun and games

Yesterday after UNI, julie, Bea and I went shopping for groceries. Bea, kim and I then made pasta and chicken salad and after a bit julie, Helena, Daria and Timothy came over for dinner which then turned into a bit of a party. Haha. We played drinking games and got to know each other better. At midnight we all went to the beach and some us ended up swimming. But not far out enough to be eaten by any sharks which was good. The waves though were awesome and the water was so warm. I love night swimming!

Sunday Fun

I have been so tired today, insane! So I woke up at 12, had breakfast, woke Bea up and then I went with my roommates to Sunshine Plaza. A shopping mall not far away. I wanted to ask about my phone but they couldn't help me, all they said was that I had bought the wrong sim card and people always have problems with that company. Great! I also bought a bikini because my other one is broken, and two tank tops. Felt like I needed some clothes. We also bought groceries which is turning into a Sunday tradition now. When we came back we ate dinner Dim sim with rice and vegetables. Really good! I've missed rice a lot actually. After dinner the three of us went to the jacuzzi and just relaxed which was super nice, exactly what I needed and my new bikini fits perfectly. Now we are sitting close to the beach checking our Facebook and mail and stuff. We are also downloading a movie for tonight, Bodertown starring Jennifer Lopez. Tomorrow is Monday so I have to go to university. But I start at three so I can relax a little during the day which is thumbs up.
Picture of me that was taken yesterday by my flatmate Kim :)

Strip club!

Yup! Last night I went to a strip club with my roommates. Haha! It was actually one of the best nights I've had since I got here. We were literally the only girls at the club (except for the girls who worked there). And we talked to the strippers a lot and they were the sweetest people ever haha. Some of them bought us drinks and it was just lots of fun. Towards the end however everything got a bit intense at that place so we took a cab home. But besides that the night was awesome!

Water

I woke up at six today. FML! Started at 8 today and I had two classes. In an hour I am going back to school for a two hour tutorial. But I had a long break in between so I woke Bea up this morning when I got back from uni. We then got ready and went to the beach. The water was amazing! Loved it. Then we went and chilled a bit by the pool until we were attacked by some huge insect and then we went back to our apartment. Now we are sitting on our balcony, listening to music and just chilling. I am already loving this life.
