It was almost two years ago, back in Kenya, just a normal day. I'd been out the night before so I wasn't too energetic when my friend Riz came over. If it was a social visit or if it was something else, I can't remember but he was there for a while and we spent some time talking about all kinds of things. I was still in my PJ's and my hair was in a messy bun when he mentioned as if it were nothing that he was going to Akon's press conference. My jaw dropped, and jealously hit me. I then asked him, half seriously, if there was any chance if I could come too and he told me I could, but I had to get dressed as fast as I could. I ran into my room as fast as possible and threw off my PJ's and put on a pair of jeans and a shirt. On the way to his car, we bumped into two more schoolmates of mine who came with us too. In the car ride I did my make up and fixed my hair while we all talked how exciting it was going to be.
We finally arrived at the amazing hotel. It was big and beautiful and the press was already there when we entered the building. To get into the room where the conference was being held, me and my schoolmates had to pretend to be journalists and they totally bought it and let us in. It took some time before Akon entered the "stage" but when he did, we all applaud him with joy. A ton of questions were asked from all types of people and photos were taken. He answered politely and made the audience laugh every now and then. He even talked a bit about Michael Jackson which of course, made my heart melt just a little ;) when the conference was done, Riz made sure we got to meet him personally. He was really kind and we talked a little and we got to take a bunch of photos with him. It was awesome, and we all got a copy of his unreleased album at the time that we listened to on the way back to campus. Imagine how jealous everyone else was when we told all our friends the story. It was awesome. The next day however, we all got to go to his concert and it was great!
